YPAS Fall Vocal Concert

Hello, my name is Torinae Norman. I am currently a sophomore majoring in musical theatre at DuPont Manual High School/Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) in Louisville, KY. My dream is to be a performing artist and an activist to help make positive changes in my community and the world.

I have been working on my craft from the age of 4. Over the years I have learned and performed various styles of dance (ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, liturgical, modern, and West African), theatre (Lion King, Annie, Shakespeare, McBeth, The Color Purple, Hairspray, Shrek the Musical), and vocal, including operatic, gospel, pop, and R&B.

All of my performances have been local and now I have the opportunity to take my talent out of the country and perform for people of different cultures! I will also get to learn more about their cultures and meet students while they are in school.

This is a note from my vocal instructor at school regarding our trip to give you more details:

"The YPAS Choirs and Orchestra will be touring Costa Rica June 8-16, 2016. During this time we will present 4-5 concerts, have a cultural exchange with students in Costa Rica, and spend some time immersed in the country’s culture. If you or your student has never been on an international performance tour, I can say from multiple experiences that it is a truly amazing opportunity and experience. It is very much unlike a vacation or a cultural tour because everyone on the trip is united in the common goal of communication through music. We are going as a group of musicians to share our music beyond Louisville and the boarders of the USA. We will perform in important venues in Costa Rica for an audience that will warmly welcome us. I can assure you that it will be a wonderful experience for our students.
We will be traveling with Concept Tours out of New York, NY, a company that I have experience with through my previous travels as a student. My mentor conductor at East Tennessee State University, Tom Jenrette, has toured Costa Rica with his collegiate choir with Concept Tours. He has highly recommended this tour and tour company, and I have met Dennis Hunt, Managing director of Concept Tours, personally and have conversed with him at length about this tour.
Educationally, there are many good reasons for group travel and performance."

I need your help to make this dream come true and continue my journey towards being a great performer and asset to the world. The goal amount includes my cost and one chaperone, which I must have, for the trip. At the end of each month we have to make payments, which began in September, with the final payment due March 30, 2016. Many pictures and videos will be created. I will share my experience upon my return with all who invest in me for this trip of a lifetime!

Thank you in advance for believing in and supporting me.
