Please join me in your support for Classroom 119 to bring iPad's into our educational space! I am a first year teacher at Milburn T. Maupin Elementary School here in West Louisville Kentucky, pursing my passion career of teaching and learning. I currently teach first grade, with a small class size of 14 which fluctuates throughout the year due to circumstances of the different families we serve. Maupin is 98% Free/Reduced lunch, a CSI school and provider of many resources and services our families need to support their children. In my classroom, students discover their passion for helping others and contribute to the hard work in our room by accepting a leadership position for a month and demonstrating responsibility for that position. Two leadership positions that my students absolutely love is being Dojo Patrol. One student in the class is assigned to give points to students in the classroom. He/She usually sits behind my Art Cart and on my laptop gives out points to students doing the right thing. This has helped students learn the names of their peers and recognize when others are doing well and how we can acknowledge them for their smart choices. I also have another student award Dojo Points in the Hallway. This student walks outside the line, gives points, and compliments their peers for following hallway expectations.
Right now, we use my computer to award points, but I would love for students to have an iPad that they can operate themselves and still be mobile in the classroom when I need them to sit on the carpet or at their tables. Please help us reach our funding goal!
